SmileFresh Gel for aligners & retainers

SmileFresh Gel from the team at IAS brings a much needed product for everyone who is going through aligner orthodontics (e.g. Invisalign, Clear correct) or are wearing orthodontic retainers.

Retainer breath isn’t a hygiene failure. It’s what happens inside a sealed plastic appliance over 8+ hours of sleep — and cleaning alone won’t control it.

Key Benefits

• Fights Odour: The mint-flavoured gel targets odour-causing bacteria overnight, reducing morning aligner breath.
• Remineralises Enamel: Formulated with nano-hydroxyapatite—the primary mineral naturally found in tooth enamel—to help protect and rebuild teeth.
• Balances pH Levels: Contains baking soda to buffer acids produced by bacteria while wearing plastic appliances, maintaining a tooth-safe, neutral pH.
• Keeps Appliances Cleaner: Helps cut down overnight biofilm and build-up, reducing the need for frequent deep-cleaning or ultrasonic sessions and extending the life of the appliance.
• Combats Saliva Reduction: Plastic dental appliances often restrict natural saliva flow over the teeth; the gel helps counteract this reduced protection to prevent issues like white spot lesions and enamel erosion.

Removable dental appliances reduce protective saliva flow over teeth and create an environment where bacteria thrives and acids increase. SmileFresh Gel was designed to help support a healthier oral environment under plastic appliances.

SmileFresh Gel is a mint-flavoured oral health gel designed specifically for people who wear removable dental appliances like clear aligners, retainers, and night guards.

Wear – Rinse – Repeat – is NOT how to care for your appliance or avoid problems like decay cavities developing. There is little point if having straight teeth if you develop gum inflammation and cavities in the process.

Three active ingredients developed specifically for your appliance environment — where contact time is extended and saliva flow is low.

• Nano-Hydroxyapatite – Supports enamel remineralisation
• Xylitol – Supports a cleaner, fresher oral environment
• Baking Soda – Buffers acids and balances pH.

Orthodontic appliances are renowned for their oral hygiene challenges. Braces with brackets, elastics and wires are obvious barriers to keeping teeth and gums clean and healthy but aligners, retainers and nightguards are often overlooked. ANYTHING in the mouth will develop plaque biofilm on their surface -aligners are a great example. Not only are they in contact with teeth for long periods of time but their tooth attachments are particularly plaque retentive for food and plaque.

Keeping gums healthy and teeth is very much about meticulous oral hygiene. Effective thorough plaque biofilm removal. We recommend a power toothbrush and a suitable interdental cleaning method e.g. GumChucks flossing and interdental brushes of suitable sizes. We recommend supplementing this with a single tuft brush and the solo toothbrushing technique. Toothbrushing should be completed with a high fluoride toothpaste. If you have sensitive teeth and have tried the over the counter pastes look at one of the new sensitivity pastes.
