Many eco friendly oral care products require different care and maintenance to those made from plastic. E,g, Bamboo handles should be kept as dry as possible. Toothpaste tablets should be used with a wet brush to reduce abrasiveness. Rinse toothbrush bristles thoroughly after brushing and dry out of contact with other peoples brushes. All toothbrushes should be replaced when the bristles start to splay/spread out – approximately every three months.
Whatever you choose it is important to take the time to look after your mouth. Brushing last thing at night and one other time every day with a fluoride toothpaste is the foundation of clean teeth and fresh breath. Choose a eco friendly toothbrush and toothpaste tablets made in the UK with fluoride. As with any toothpaste, spit out after brushing but don’t rinse with water. Let the fluoride remain around the teeth to give maximum protection.
For clean teeth and fresh breath, clean tongue first, then clean in between teeth with floss or interdental brushes then use your toothbrush to clean each surface of all teeth. Concentrate the bristles cleaning around the gum line where plaque biofilm gathers. If your gums bleed when brushing spit out and keep going – the plaque biofilm is irritating the gums and causing them to bleed. Persevere if your gums are bleeding and you should start to see and feel the improvement in a couple of weeks. Remember – Healthy gums don’t bleed!
