The Suri sustainable electric sonic toothbrush has a slim and durable aluminium body which is around one third the size of standard electric brush. It weighs just 84g vs the average 140g electric toothbrush. It is perfect for travel and for anyone with weakness that might affect holding a powered toothbrush. The brush has 33,000 sonic vibrations per minute and has been designed with dentists.

The SURI sustainable electric toothbrush uses sonic cleaning technology to create an effect called “fluid dynamics” which disrupts plaque biofilm from tooth surfaces. Sonic toothbrush technology is different to oscillating rotating/pulsating toothbrush technology and often selection is based on personal preference.
The key to effective oral hygiene is the correct use of the toothbrush in your hands. Using a powered brush is not the same as using a manual toothbrush where toothbrush bristle movement relies on you making the bristles move.
Powered toothbrushes take the effort out of bristle movement. Just hold the bristles where the gum and tooth meet along the gum line and let the sonic vibrations do the work. Count to 5 (1.5 seconds) then move onto the next surface.
1.5 seconds per surface x 5 tooth surfaces of each tooth x 32 teeth = approximately 2 minutes = the recommended minimum time to brush by dental professionals the world over.
A sonic brush can feel more gentle on your teeth and gums than an oscillating brush at times, yet still provides a very effective clean. The bristles are medium/soft positioned in a W shape to aid access to all surfaces and around the gum line.
The SURI doesn’t have a visible pressure warning but has two speed modes with medium/soft bristles.

How to Use
The SURI has Two Modes to Choose from – Clean Mode and Polish Mode
Add a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your brush head. Spread the paste over all the tooth surfaces then push your brush’s button to turn on everyday Clean mode (white light). Direct the bristles towards the gum line at a 45-degree angle.
Your brush will make a haptic (tactile) notification every 30 seconds for you to move to a different quadrant of your mouth and the brush will turn off after 2 minutes of use (the recommended brushing time). Don’t limit to two minutes – this is the minimum recommended – many will need to take more time!
- Speeds: Your brush has two speeds, Everyday Clean and Polish modes. Use the Everyday Clean mode when first using. For a stronger clean you can push the button again to turn on polish mode (blue light).
- Memory: When you turn the brush on in the first 10 seconds you can switch between modes (Everyday Clean & Polish) and off by pressing the button again repeatedly. After 5 seconds it will switch off no matter what mode you are in and when you turn it on again it will switch on to that same mode. You always use the same mode if you like. If you would like to move between modes again you can push the button quickly to cycle to off then the modes. Last if you hold the button for two seconds it will always turn right off in the mode you are in.
- Your brush comes with a separate mirror mount. Remove the adhesive cover and stick it on a clean mirror. The middle of your brush will magnetically stick to the mount. Note it is not possible to re-stick your mount without replacing the adhesive tape so choose a good place first.
Maximizing Efficiency: How to Look after and Charge Your Suri Toothbrush
- We recommend you charge your brush before first use.
- Plug your stand into any 5V USB 2.0 charger using the cable provided – most phone chargers work well. The light will blink blue and turn solid white when fully charged.
- After, charge your brush only as needed, daily charging is unnecessary and reduces battery life.
- Slide your brush head on with the bristles facing the direction of the power button until it goes as far down as possible. We recommend you change your brush head every 3 months.
How to Recycle
SURI Toothbrush Heads: Revolutionary plant based heads that are recycled by SURI Returning the brush heads is easy, they can be recycled up to 6 times (or upcycled into different products). Every UK/US order comes with a compostable return mailer for you to send SURI your used heads to recycle. If you are in the UK and don’t have a mailer you can send SURI your heads using any envelope with just “Freepost SURI” written on it in capitals. SURI ask that you collect at least 3 heads before posting to reduce the carbon footprint. Note the mailer is pre-paid for the UK and the US and SURI are looking to expand this globally soon. Composting Heads
If you are unable to send back your heads to us you can look at industrially composting part of them. This will require a few steps: Remove the bristles with pliers and dispose of them in your waste bin, as they are plant-based they will eventually break down into plant-based micro-particles (in a couple of years unlike petroleum-based alternatives). When you do this little metal clips will come out also, you can recycle these at home by bunching them in any spare aluminium foil you have. Using your pliers carefully pull out the inner core of the toothbrush head, this is recyclable in your normal household stream. The remaining shell of the head is made from cornstarch and can be sent to a local industrial composter.

SURI Battery
The SURI has a long-lasting Li-Ion battery which can be replaced when returned to SURI. They looked at lots of other batteries including consumer rechargeable ones and their selection outlasted them in terms of cycles and lifetime duration (3-5 weeks duration on a charge, 4 hour recharge). The brush is made in China and SURI has partnered with Climate Partner to offset carbon on each brush (included with each purchase).
