EFFECTIVE PAIN RELIEF
Orajel gel and Extra Strength contain benzocaine which is a powerful local anaesthetic that works by temporarily blocking the pathway of pain signals along the nerves and relieves pain by numbing the area. It works quickly to reduce pain related to a broken tooth or in a tooth that may a filling. It is not for long term use but a stop gap until you can see a dentist.
Two strengths for targeted pain relieve applied directly onto the tooth.
Active ingredients: Benzocaine Before you use this medicine read the enclosed leaflet carefully.
Orajel dental gel contains Benzocaine 10% w/w
Orajel Extra Strength contains Benzocaine 20% w/w (maximum level of benzocaine available without prescription)
- Active Ingredients: Benzocaine 20% w/w.
- Also contains: Polyethylene Glycol, Sodium Saccharin (E954), Sorbic Acid (E200), Clove Oil, Spearmint Flavour.

Talk to your pharmacist, doctor or dentist if:
- You are taking antibiotics called Sulponamides, for example Co-trimoxazole, as Benzocaine may prevent them from working well.
- You are pregnant or breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant
- Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children
- There are no special precautions for storage.
Do not use your medicine if the tube or pack is damaged or after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Do not exceed the recommended dose
Precautions:
Speak to your doctor, dentist or pharmacist if suffer from allergies, have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms continue. - READ PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET HERE
- Do not use this medicine if:
- You have had an allergic reaction to Benzocaine or any of the ingredients in the gel, particularly Sorbic acid. An allergic reaction may include a rash, stinging, swelling or itching. This product contains Sorbic acid, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. Contact Dermatitis)
- You have been told by your doctor that you have difficulty converting a component of your blood called methaemglobin to haemoglobin. Please don’t be worried, Most people taking this medicine will not experience any problems.
How to use:
- Remove cap.
- Cut tip off tube.
- Use a clean finger or cotton bud apply a pea sized amount of gel into the tooth .
- Can be used up to 4 times daily.
- Do not use continuously. If toothache persists, consult your dentist.
- Not for use in children under 12 years.
