Growing Smiles is always on the lookout for products to help you to a healthier smile. We’ve known the benefits of Xylitol for many years but have struggled to source good quality, great tasting sugar free products – until we came across Dr John’s. We continue to extend our range bringing these great treats directly from the USA. Since 1995, award winning American dentist, Dr. John Bruinsma, and his dental hygienist wife Debra, have perfected an extensive line of naturally delicious, tooth-friendly sweets that you and your dentist can smile about. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Sugar free with xylitol & erythritol – good for dental health. Xylitol inhibits the growth of the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Over time with xylitol use, the quality of the bacteria in the mouth changes and fewer and fewer decay-causing bacteria survive on tooth surfaces. Less plaque biofilm forms and the level of acids attacking the tooth surface is lowered.
Xylitol has also been linked to clearing nasal passages, wound healing, upper respiratory health and calcium absorption.
Erythritol, like xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is made by fermenting sugar to remove the calories. It is low carb, does not affect your blood sugar and does not cause tooth decay.
Sugar alcohols don’t actually contain sugar (sucrose) or alcohol (ethanol). Sugar alcohols are reduced-calorie sweeteners found in everything from chewing gum to flavored water. Erythritol is almost as sweet as sugar and has practically no calories.
Erythritol is found naturally in some fruits, such as melons, grapes, and pears. It’s also found in some fermented foods. When erythritol is used in sugar-free foods and beverages, it’s most likely made from fermented corn.
