Plaque biofilm will develop on all surfaces in your mouth, including the surfaces of appliances. Your mouth has hundreds of bacteria that will thrive in the plaque biofilm that builds up on the surface of your appliance, so it’s really important to clean appliances thoroughly and regularly.

Denture care also applies by and large to other dental appliance e.g. mouthguards, removable orthodontic appliances, retainers, snoring devices, clench inhibitors, obturators etc. They all need to be removed and cleaned thoroughly at least once a day. Clean both denture/appliance etc and your mouth daily as advised using a dental and appliance care brush on all surfaces of your dental appliance and a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste for teeth.
