Probiotic prodentis specifically for a healthy mouth. ProDentis promotes oral health by increasing ”good” bacteria, which controls the growth of ”bad” bacteria in the mouth.
NB Sadly, we no longer have a UK distributor for BioGaia Prodentis lozenges but we have been able to acquire stock from one of the European Sunstar PerioBalance suppliers. We have long experience of Periobalance which we used for many years until they became unavailable in the UK, when we started using BioGaia. Both products are the same ProDentis Probiotic. We have added a graphic for your information and will include product details and information in English with all orders. Currently the labeling is in German but we will include a leaflet in English for your information. You can find out more about BioGaia and Periobalance products here. Please contact us if you have any queries.
For home-care maintenance, one lozenge twice daily for three to six months is recommended.
Prodentis has been shown to help prevent both tooth decay and gum disease. L.reuteri prodentis in the form of PerioBalance is able to provide a multistrain L.reuteri probiotic dose with a consistent potency of 200 million active micro organisms. Taken as a slowly melting lozenge once a day after brushing and flossing, ensures consistent exposure to L.reuteri on a daily basis. Gum disease is common and can often causes problems, especially in the elderly, diabetics, pregnant women, when taking certain medication and in those who smoke. Gum disease is related to the plaque biofilm buildup around the crevice where teeth and gum meet and how your body responds to the bacteria that live in this plaque biofilm. The plaque biofilm needs to be removed regularly, otherwise they will harden into tartar which can only be removed by your dental team.

ProDentis can be used by patients who are at high risk of gum problems: the elderly, diabetics, pregnant women, patients with osteoporosis, patients with braces, certain medications and smokers.
The human body cooperates with bacteria and the mouth is no exception (you may have heard about the microbiome of the gut). There are more than 700 types of bacteria that live in the mouth. Some of these can protect the mouth and some can cause gum problems. When the balance of these good and bad bacteria is disrupted e.g. inadequate oral hygiene, stress, poor diet, then the ‘bad’ bacteria gain the upper hand, causing gum inflammation – you may notice bleeding when brushing or flossing. Healthy gums are pink, firm and fit tightly around each tooth. Signs of gum problems are red, sore and bleeding gums. Bad breath can also be a sign of gum problems. If you smoke you may not realise you have gum disease. Smoking restricts the blood supply to the gums so many smokers are unaware of their gum problem thinking because they don’t have any bleeding all is well. It is important to visit your dentist regularly so they can check your gums and provide you with advise and treatment if necessary. How it works – Supplementation with Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis affects the oral microbiota locally by competing for binding sites and nutrients with pathogenic bacteria. In addition, Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis produces reuterin which directly inhibits growth of pathogenic bacteria. Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis does not only suppress the emergence of endogenous pathogens and prevent the superinfection with exogenous pathogens, but might also protect the host by stimulating the immune system, which is done by modulating the inflammatory process via T cells and cytokines. From a therapeutic perspective, it is important that probiotics are ingested daily since Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis does not colonize the oral cavity or digestive tract permanently.

A systematic review showed that L. reuteri Prodentis was the only probiotic effective in patients with chronic periodontitis. According to the authors the results are similar to those of other adjuncts to treatment of periodontitis, such as systemic antibiotics. J Clin Periodontol. 2016.

“The present randomized controlled trial confirms the plaque inhibition, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects of L. reuteri Prodentis. L. reuteri Prodentis probiotic can be recommended during non-surgical therapy and the maintenance phase of periodontal treatment. Considering the beneficial effects of probiotics, this therapy could serve as a useful adjunct or alternative to periodontal treatment when SRP might be contraindicated. Further studies are required in this direction”
