The MolarMunch Teether from Brush-Baby is designed to ease sore gums when teething with baby molars.  Perfectly shaped with textured biting surface to reach the gums at the back  and sides of the mouth. It has an inbuilt rattle which can help with distraction when your little one is sore.

Teething is a stressful time for baby and parents. Find out more about teething on the NHS website here.

Using a cooled teething ring can help relieve symptoms when teething as they give your baby something to chew safely. This may ease their discomfort and distract them from any pain.

Teething can start at anytime from birth but the first tooth usually erupts around 6 months. You will notice your little one chewing on their fingers, toys or other objects they can get hold of. See our tooth eruption chart in the image gallery to get an idea of when baby teeth erupt into the mouth.

If your baby is 6 months or older, you can give them healthy things to chew on e.g. raw fruit and vegetables. Pieces of apple or carrot are ideal. Always stay close when your baby is eating in case they choke. Avoid rusks because nearly all brands contain some sugar. Tooth decay can develop from the first sign of a tooth in the mouth so avoid any foods or drinks that contain sugar. The more time sugar is in contact with teeth the more likely the result will be tooth decay/cavities. Stick to milk or water for drinks – babies aren’t born with a sweet tooth and try and keep any sugar containing food to mealtimes only.

The teether can be washed in warm water with detergent and dried at room temperature, or wash in the dishwasher. Not suitable for microwave or steam sterilisation. Do not boil or overheat. Do not freeze.

Always inspect before each use and throw away if worn or damaged. Wash before use and keep out of  reach of children. Store in a cool dry place.

The first step in oral health care is to clean baby’s gums. Cleaning your baby’s gums with xylitol wipes will help create a healthy environment for the new teeth. Xylitol helps to reduce plaque biofilm and also stops the decay causing bacteria being able to harm your baby’s teeth. If parents or carers have had active tooth decay in the previous two years they may have a lot of the decay causing bacteria in their mouth which can be transferred to baby. Using BrushBaby xylitol wipes can help to reduce the risk of tooth decay developing in your little ones mouth.  Prevention really is better than cure. Baby teeth are very important for eating, speech development and appearance. Tooth decay and early tooth loss can lead to a range of problems not least is pain and discomfort.

Toothbrushing should start as soon as the first tooth starts to erupt. Use a dry soft toothbrush and a smear of toothpaste with at least 1000ppm fluoride. Children don’t have the dexterity to clean teeth properly so it is important that parents/carers brush thoroughly all surfaces of the teeth at night and one other time every day. They will need help and support until they are 7-8 years old. Find out more about oral health and looking after your families teeth here. Got a question? Contact us at info@growingsmiles.co.uk
