Dry Mouth

Dry mouth, oral dryness or xerostomia results from reduced or no saliva flow. The salivary glands in your mouth don’t make enough saliva to keep your mouth moist. Dry mouth is not a disease, but can be a symptom of various medical conditions, a side effect of cancer treatments or medications. It can also be caused by dehydration. Saliva is the secret helper in your mouth. It lubricates the soft tissues, helping you swallow and buffers and neutralises acids and sugars to help maintain a healthy environment in the mouth. It is often said you don’t notice saliva in your mouth until its not there!
